Pointwest marked its fifth attendance to the Philippine Software Industry Conference (Softcon) with two breakout session speakers, a sponsor’s booth, and its very own EESY as the event’s official mobile app partner. Softcon 2017 was held on Tuesday, 24 October 2017, at the SMX Aura Convention Center in Taguig City.
Showcasing the company’s competence in today’s digital transformation was a breakout session on Design Thinking using the LEGO Serious Play method, which was facilitated by Pointwest Digital Capability Head Sherwin Pelayo in partnership with Myke Santos of BrickByBrickPH.
The uniqueness behind the Design Thinking session was the use of LEGO bricks to illustrate what makes up an agile organization and the barriers that may hinder its agility.
“If you want to do human-centered design, there are two things that you really need to believe in: (1) all problems have a solution; (2) solutions to those problems can come from people who experience the problem on a day-to-day basis.”Sherwin Pelayo, Pointwest Digital Capability Head
Participants were fortunate to leave the conference with a delightful and meaningful design thinking experience from the session. One participant shared that she found the activity to be effective in removing barriers if one has an idea because you just have to build it and the explanation comes out naturally. Mr. Santos supported the observation and stated that, “LEGO is a good way to disarm people with authority in functional silo since you’re all playing.”
The other non-coding technical track was a talk from Pointwest Project Manager Kim Deloria that highlighted the use of data analytics in automated software testing. Mr. Deloria discussed and shared how his team goes for an agile approach by consolidating analytics in software testing. He mentioned that predictive analytics has helped them prepare for defects ahead of time and reduce fixing costs.
“With predictive analytics, I’m able to simulate, predict certain scenarios, and perform necessary analysis so I could take necessary steps in order for me to take action.” Kim Deloria, Pointwest Project Manager
Once again, Pointwest spiced things up with digital engagement through its homegrown EESY as the official mobile app partner of the premier event. It became essential for delegates to have it installed in their smartphones since its features were made to suit their needs during the event.
On another note, Pointwest’s business development team shared that several delegates dropped by the company booth and expressed their interest on the digital offerings of the company especially Robotic Process Automation (RPA).
Throughout the years, Softcon has paved the way for industry players to discover new technology trends that they can adopt to cope with the rapidly-changing digital business landscape. It has also become a venue for IT companies to show and promote their services and products, which leads to greater opportunities and future partnerships among the business community. Known to be one of the premier events in the Philippines, Softcon takes its significant contribution in positioning the country as the go-to destination for quality IT-BPM services in the global market.
