While ASEAN leaders focus on discussing priority regional topics, the recently concluded ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ABIS) 2017 takes a digital leap into event engagement through Pointwest’s mobile app EESY.
The Philippines hosted activities for the 31st ASEAN fora as the 2017 chair of the Southeast Asian bloc. From November 11 to 14, leaders of twenty countries from the ASEAN member states gathered in Manila to discuss the implementation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025, and exchange views on pressing regional and international issues such as infrastructure development, economy and human capital development, open markets, and entrepreneurship in the digital economy.
This marked the third time the Philippines chaired the regional summit, and the first instance that the country used a mobile app to provide info-on-demand and foster digital interaction during the high-profile event.
Pointwest’s event engagement mobile app, EESY (Events Engagement Suite for You), played a vital role in providing the estimated 1,700 delegates and guests with a paperless means to keep track of the ABIS 2017 activities and engage with speakers and fellow participants. EESY’s popular features included the photo capture (with the ABIS branding) and social sharing, event schedule and schedule personalization, profile and contact exchange, and partner booth scanning.
“Seeing ASEAN delegates using EESY to network with each other, organize the activities they want to attend, and take pictures branded with the ASEAN frames was surreal. It is such an honor to have our mobile app digitally empower and engage delegates who came from different countries.” Raymond Posadas, Pointwest Product Manager for EESY.

The use of EESY is well-timed, given that innovations in the digital economy continue to disrupt businesses, especially MSMEs. EESY is one example of combining digital technologies to elevate the state of a business or activity–events, in this case–to dramatically boost the customer experience. Aside from being available on mobile devices for participants, EESY boasts of real-time analytics for event organizers to understand the delegate’s experience and make adjustments when necessary. The ability to measure the experience of participants is a powerful tool to drive the success of an event. On the side of the participants, they have the power to communicate their satisfaction to organizers directly.
With the World Bank and A.T. Kearney pegging that 40 percent of Southeast Asians are digital natives below 30 (PDF), ABIS 2017 embraces digital transformation and provides a mobile platform for delegates to interact and be engaged.
ABIS or the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit 2017 is the biggest and most prestigious business event set as a three-day conference organized by the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ABAC) that was held at the Solaire Casino and Hotel, Entertainment City, Manila, Philippines. The fora brings attention to investment opportunities, global issues, and key strategic directions that impact businesses in ASEAN member nations.
EESY brings digital events engagement to four more conferences that come on the heels of ABIS 2017. All set on EESY’s November 2017 calendar are Big Data and Analytics Summit 2017 on November 15, Philippine Association of Occupational Therapists (PAOT) Convention 2017 on November 19-20, Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accounts (PICPA) Annual National Convention on November 23-25, and Management Association of the Philippines’ (MAP) FCC Forum on November 28.
