Quezon City, PhilippinesPointwest, a leading Filipino-owned IT and Business Process Services firm, was hailed as one of the Pioneering Business Locators for 2011 by the local government of Quezon City. The citation was conferred at the Quezon City Business Night on October 17, 2012.

The event, which was part of the city’s 73rd Foundation Celebration, gathered leaders of notable enterprises that helped usher the city into an era of growth. Receiving the same award were IBM Philippines, Canon Information Technologies, and the Information and Communications Technology Office of the Department of Science and Technology.

In his speech, Mayor Herbert Bautista thanked these value-adding IT companies for “enabling Quezon City to be the location of choice for software development” that would rival other technology hubs in Asia.

The UP-AyalaLand TechnoHub in Quezon City is the location of Pointwest’s second delivery center. Project teams handling the company’s biggest clients were relocated to the site in 2008, occupying an entire floor in Building Alpha. Early this year, Pointwest occupied another floor to accommodate expansion.

“As our global client base grows and demand for our services rises, so does our headcount,” said Pointwest President Beng Coronel, who was on hand to receive the award. “When it became clear that we had to set up another delivery center to support the first one in Makati, we knew TechnoHub in Quezon City was the right place for us.”

She added that the company’s Quezon City-based employees were happy with the location, because of its proximity to key places like malls, hospitals, and schools.

At present, Pointwest has more than 900 of the best Filipino software engineers, data analysts, project managers, and licensed clinical pharmacists in its employ. Headcount is expected to reach 1,000 at the end of 2012.
